The association came into being in 2022, in response to the war in Ukraine. The first place we went was the Siret border crossing.
People came on foot, a bag in one hand and a child in the other. The queue stretched for hundreds of metres, at any hour of the day or night. Many had slept in a car or on a coach.
We brought water, hot food, clothes and hygiene products. We helped carry luggage and get people onto the coaches. Those who could not walk were carried by the firefighters.
Some we went with further, to host families, into homes in Romania.
That year we distributed over 120 tonnes of essential goods, through our network of partners. Around 20,000 people received help, and 43 volunteers worked alongside us.
The first transports across the border left then too: eight pallets of clothes and food to the village of Orlivshina, in the Dnipro region, and eight more to the refugee centre in Vinnytsia.
